From nursery to university, over 25,000 hours of our children's time is spent in education so the health & wellbeing of
our growing generation is of paramount importance. It is now proven that well ventilated learning spaces reduce CO2
& increase concentration levels.
Nearly 600 No. chain actuators were supplied for the natural ventilation of the College. These actuators were chosen by BAM following a rigorous selection process, whereby Dyer was chosen due to offering the quietest operating chain actuator in the market, coupled with simple interfacing with the Trend BMS to provide full automatic control. This control option working closely with the BMS provided a highly efficient and economical solution which reduced any duplicity in sensors and controls.
The special RAL-coloured actuators also included an in-built anti-trap feature, chosen for safety and offer one of the smallest housings available, so providing the best solution for BAM.
A £20.2m school in Radstock designed by Aedas Architects and built by Kier Construction has recently been recognised at the British Council for School Environments (BCSE) Awards (2012). Awarded the top slot in the Excellence in Design - Teaching and Learning category, the new build has been praised for its modern, innovative and eco-friendly design.
Following on-site sample testing, Dyer was chosen to install remote manual window controls to over 350 no. windows for natural ventilation. The options chosen ranged from individual window operation, up to sets of 4 windows controlled by one operator.
This success followed previous successes with Kier, notably the Mid Kent College project, which included over 2500 chain openers being installed.
A winning combination of technical and commercial expertise provided unique smoke vents at this new Academy. By working with the ETFE roof contractor, Dyer was able to provide opening smoke vents within the roof space, with each vent over 4x2 metres in size. These hinged vents were opened by Dyer to 1500mm using a unique synchronized rack & pinion set of 4 No. actuators.
These vents were then controlled via Dyer's own smoke and natural ventilation control system, incorporating BMS interfacing, weather station control and battery back-up supply in case of mains failure.
